There is no excuse for charging so much. My local cinema charges £9 for one small popcorn and two cups of coke. That's more that my ticket costs (£8). I refuse to pay such stupid amount for coke and popcorn... probably the two cheapest things to make on this planet!

How much do movie chains gross in ticket sales each year? Hundreds of millions of pounds in the UK alone. Here is the current top 5 movies at the box office:

UK Box Office
1. The Expendables £3.91M
2. Salt £2.17M
3. Toy Story 3 £2.09M
4. Piranha £1.49M
5. Marmaduke £1.24M

That's more than £10 million in one week alone in this country on just five movies ticket prices. I think charging the punter £9 for popcorn and coke is cheeky at this point, especially as I can get burger, chips and coke for under £5 at my local resturant, and they don't have the income from hollywood blockbusters to add to their takings!

What about secondary effects like people not going at all because they think popcorn is too expensive, or people moving to another cinema? This only properly works when you fix the price.
